U.N.I.T.Y. (Uniting the Nation by Inspiring Yoday’s Youths) – U.N.I.T.Y. is a voluntary charity project, currently in the stages of being registered as an official charity. Its aims are simple. Raise as much money as possible for the most needed cause. In 2009, the U.N.I.T.Y. project raised just over £1000 for young people in Pakistan during the Islamic month of Ramadan. In 2010, U.N.I.T.Y. rose over £1500 for young people in
Gaza and Palestine, and helped raise a further £6000 for orphans by organising an engaging and enthusiastic football tournament. It was in 2011 when things took an unexpected turn, and volunteers from within the U.N.I.T.Y. project branched out to support the cause. Disaster struck in the Horn of Africa, and through professional youth and community work, the project has been able to engage over 200 volunteers from not just Luton, but from other towns such as Bedford, Birmingham and Northampton. In total, the project has raised just over £60,000 since its inception. It not only develops young people to holster a charitable spirit within their work, but also teaches them the benefits of charity through the creation of fundraising events that are steered by the young people themselves in order to raise money for the most needed causes.
